Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that characterized by difficulty in breathing caused by the inflammation of the airways of the lungs, the bronchi. Asthma, like other conditions, may be caused by varied factors and may also be treated differently.

Asthma attacks may be caused by inadequate exercise, dietary changes or change in food intake, environmental factors and exposure, or they may be simply hereditary. Although there are a lot of promising cures for asthma in the market today, here are some of the proven effective home remedies for asthma attacks.

A natural treatment for asthma is fresh air. The patient should get fresh and clean air daily and avoid exposure to dust, smoke, and crowded and polluted places.

To loosen or ease up blocked airways, the patient is advised to take steam baths to trigger perspiration and relieve congestion as a temporary natural remedy for asthma.

As one of the most potent sources of omega fatty acids in nature, linseed is also one of the recommended natural cures for asthma. Just boil about 20 grams of linseed in water and sieve after only about one-third of the initial amount of water is left. Have the patient take a teaspoonful every few minutes as a natural asthma treatment to help expel the blocked mucous in the lungs.

Other asthma natural remedies are garlic cloves. About 8-10 gloves of garlic should be boiled in 30 grams of milk and should be taken once a day, preferably at night, as a natural treatment for asthma.

Honey is also considered as one of the most effective asthma home remedies. A teaspoonful of honey may be mixed with a glass of water and taken at least 3 times a day as one of the natural cures for asthma.
And during asthma attack, a jug of honey should be placed under the nose of the patient to relieve breathing difficulty or massage mustard oil combined with camphor at the back of the chest area. Both of these are effective natural remedies for asthma.

Also, a teaspoonful of turmeric powder added to a glass of milk, or a warm ginger tea with minced garlic taken twice a day are also very good natural asthma cures.

Asthma patients should also be encouraged to inhale steam from boiling water combined with caraway seeds (ajwain) as one of the home remedies for asthma attacks. Or they could also take 1-2 teaspoonfuls of Spiegel seed with lukewarm water twice a day to soothe the lungs. These seeds are some of the known beneficial herbs for asthma.

One of the effective natural cures for asthma is regular chewing of fennel or mixing of fennel seeds to warm water. This helps excrete infected mucous from the lungs and aids in preventing future asthma attacks.
Another natural remedy for asthma, and a popular herb for asthma, is licorice. This is most effective when taken as tea after being added in hot water and strained.

However, asthma attacks can be fatal when not attended immediately and properly. It is still best to seek professional help especially when suffering from serious and late asthma attacks.
